The Moment Jewellery Becomes “Yours”

There is a small transition that happens with certain things we own.
At first, it is something we bought.
Then one day, somehow, it becomes “ours”.
Not legally.
Emotionally.
You stop thinking about whether it matches.
You simply wear it.
A ring starts appearing in almost every photograph.
A necklace becomes the thing you touch absent-mindedly while talking.
Someone asks, “You are not wearing your earrings today?”
That is when an accessory becomes part of personal style.
What interests me is that this usually does not happen with the most dramatic piece we own.
It happens with the easiest one.
The one that fits into our habits.
Which is why I think personal style is misunderstood.
We often imagine style as constantly changing and discovering something new.
But a large part of style is repetition.
Wearing something often enough that it begins to feel connected to you.
The same watch.
The same colour.
The same type of earrings.
The same way of stacking rings.
Consistency creates identity.
That is why at Nirita, I do not necessarily want every piece to become something you wear once and receive ten compliments for.
I would rather some pieces quietly become the things you wear fifty times.
Because eventually people stop saying:
“Nice necklace.”
And start thinking:
“That feels like her.”
That, to me, is far more interesting.
